welcome to CENTRAL SHORTHAND & typing institute

1. Typing is a prerequisite for shorthand and all the children want to appear for the exam so Mrs. K. S. Balsara has divided her Institute neatly, shorthand in the front-room and typing in the back-room with a balcony.

2. Shorthand is a longer course with theory but the children start both together, unless they pass the typing exam, they cannot appear for the shorthand.

 3. Mrs. Balsara finds Godrej better than the other typewriters. The parts are available easily and Godrej’s service is good. She trained on a Remington in the 50s at this very Institute.

4. Then, she was Khorshed Jamsetji Khambatta, a fresh graduate from Wilson College in history and politics. She prepared for the Pitman’s Shorthand Teacher’s Diploma under the Principal of the Institute, Mr. S. D. Balsara .

5. Together they went overseas and got additional degrees, she an MA in Speech Literature and he an LLM, both from Stanford University.

6. Mr. Balsara became the principal of Government Law College in Bombay, Mrs. Balsara became the principal of Central Shorthand & Typing Institute.

7. Parents ask, “Is it a 100% class?” Mrs. Balsara says, it depends on the child. Prerna Musale wants to join a travel agency and typing is important in any stream. Prajwan Raut and Zaid Ahmed want government jobs so they require typing and shorthand equally.

8. By the Grace of God, her results are mostly 100%. She is blessed with grateful and good students. Many were children of policemen and recently even the daughter of a bomb specialist.

9. The results came during covid, so Mrs. Balsara had to telephone her. “She passed very well.”
