Lifts: N. M. Wadia Building
Esplanade Road, Fort (presently Mahatma Gandhi Road).
Lifts in Bombay did only half their business, obliging by taking passengers up a building but not down.
This may explain why the Bombay Fornicator chair was introduced in institutions like the Ripon Club, located on the 3 rd floor of the N. M. Wadia Building. After a heavy lunch of mutton dhansak, members, hardly able to move, could snooze on the Fornicator, before they braved the three flights down.
